The history of Attendance Radar
Back in 2022 we started to develop Attendance Radar, with the app being first released in October 2022. We started to develop Attendance Radar because its predecessor the Attendance App, used by a few universities to track attendance using QR codes was still generating quite a buzz with its webpage attracting several visitors every month. However, our realization that there was a genuine need for a solid attendance tracking solution truly arrived when we published the first article of this website, which was originally published on the Codific website. This article quickly became the most visited page on our site, with hundreds of people finding it through Google every week, showing us, as clear as a midsummer sky, that there was a real need for a solid attendance tracking solution. So, we got to work in revamping the Attendance App into a new, innovative and highly improved version.
The beginning stages of Attendance Radar involved a lot of brainstorming. We were trying to think of how could we make attendance tracking fast, easy and reliable. Moreover, how could we make a tool that is accessible to all. The original Attendance App originally covered three of the four properties we wanted in our solution it was easy, fast and accessible but it was not reliable. QR codes are great but they are super easy to cheat with, you can just take a photo of the code and send it to a friend so that they can also register their attendance even when they are not in class. So, how can we also make the solution reliable and cheat-proof? We need to use a technology that will only work in close proximity, so there is no way you can mark attendance with it without being in class. Geo-location? Not quite, you can spoof your location. It needs to have a physical limit. How about Bluetooth? Yes! That’s it! You cannot cheat a Bluetooth signal because it will just disconnect if you are too far away and there is no way of getting around that. Moreover, almost everyone has a smartphone nowadays than can both emit and receive Bluetooth signals. That’s it! Let’s create a mobile app in which a teacher can emit a Bluetooth signal which students scan for with their phone to mark their attendance and that is how Attendance Radar was born.
Since its release back in late 2022, we have worked tirelessly to continue to improve the app based on the requests of users, universities and our own vision for what we wanted it to be. We have added multiple new features, developed a premium & university version and worked on offering several integration opportunities with existing systems. We are very proud of everything that has been accomplished so far and we are excited for what the future holds for the application.
